Geeks In Medicine and Friends

Hi all,
I'm a fourth-year med student going into emergency medicine and freaking out about the whole process of applying :). I'm mainly into anime and manga (FMA, Saiyuki, Rurouni Kenshin, Loveless), but I also enjoy reading sci-fi/fantasy, Douglas Adams, umm... and anything else that catches my fancy. Princess Bride is, of course, one of the greatest movies of all time. :D

So, I have a question for all of you: I've heard so much about Monty Python but I've never actually seen any of the sketches or movies (GASP! I know, I know, what kind of person am I). I was wondering if you all had any recommendations as far as which ones are the best or what I should rent first. Thanks!

Nice "Full Metal Alchemist" LJ avatar! I love that anime. :0)

As for Monty Python... I never really found it as funny as all the hype it gets though I do find a lot of other British humor funny. I guess that makes me a bad geek. =\

Thanks! I can't really take credit for the icon, though... I got it from somewhere else (my memory fails me at this point.) It is a great anime, although I like the manga better.

You're the first person I've run across who hasn't loved Monty Python with all their heart and soul... not that that makes you a bad geek, just different. We're openminded, here :)

Start with Holy Grail. If you like that try Life of Brian. Then move on to Flying Circus episodes. I love Monty Python, but it's not for everyone.

I second Holy Grail, it holds together more than some of the others. I would probably do Meaning of Life or Holywood Bowl second (Holywood Bowl gives some of the more famous sketches).

A friend of mine (who works at the Ren Faire with me) hadn't seen any MP but had heard certain quotes ad nauseum so I subjected her to Holy Grail and she loved it. The stuff they do straight, they do wonderfully, and the stuff they mess with they do THAT well too.

Woo~! Another anime person! I tend to watch a wide variety of anime, from the ultra-violent (Elfen Lied) to the outright girly (Peach Girl, Ultra Maniac). Yes, I'm a guy. I'll freely admit that I like girly anime. =p

As for Monty Python, I liked them a little when I was in high school, but any more I really don't get it. There are some things (the parrot sketch of course) will remain funny. Stuff like "Every Sperm is Sacred" and some of the other stuff is just not that funny any more. I guess when you get older (I'm only 27) the sophomoric humor wears off. I still laugh at burbs and farts though, so take that for what it's worth. ~_^
